Teecycle's Top 10 Shirts of 2008
Wednesday, December 31, 2008 at 6:50PM [In no particular order]
10. Baby Nirvana T-shirt
9. Udall for President
Backstory: 32-year-old shirt donated by my journalism professor Paul Salsini, 100% of $20 sale went to the Penfield Children's Center.
Update from new owner Rachel in New Jersey: I bought it because a) it's old like me, and b) I was (am) so tired of the 2008 elections, I was thrilled to see "[anybody else] for president" written on something. plus, it amuses me to think that the toddlers of today might one day come across a mccain '08 shirt on your site, and think, who the hell is mccain? It amuses me far less to consider how old my Udall shirt and I will be then.
8. I Have Candy
7. Skid Row
Backstory: Found this at a self-serve rummage sale while biking from Denver to Milwaukee Update from new owner Haley in Bordon Hampshire, United Kingdom: My boyfriend likes the t-shirt so much he's currently holding it hostage at his house so he can wear it!!
6. Beethoven's This Is My Fifth
Backstory: Another shirt donated by Paul Salsini. I wore this shirt to a Brewer game at Miller Park this summer
Update from new owner Nichole in Milwaukee: I love this shirt, I get so many good responses (and groans) from it. I bought it for to reasons -- 1) I am a music nerd and 2) I thought it was so clever. Really, It makes me laugh and I like the style of it. My best friend thinks it is great (she's very in to classical music) and there is a picture of her face next to it. Mostly people don't understand it, so I have to explain it to them.
5. Pabst Blue Ribbon T-shirt
Backstory: Donated by dwellephant.
Update from new owner Joe in West Allis: I didn't think there was anything better when it came to Pabst Blue Ribbon than $3 tall boys at the Riverside and their sponsorship of NPR's All Things Considered. Then I saw this tee on teecycle.org. For the cost of three tall boys and a dollar to charity, I had the opportunity to wear my premium beer allegiance on my sleeve (chest?). What's not to like about that? On behalf of this delicious can of 2006's GABF Gold Medal American Style Lager, myself and my teecycle tee, I salute you, Teecycle Tim and the rest of the teecycle.org family.
4. Parliament Mothership Connection T-shirt
3. Alaska T-shirt
Backstory: Found at a thrift store in Denver
Update from new owner Kevin in Chicago: I bought the T-shirt after reading a book about life in rural Alaska and because it's the coolest state flag in the union. The shirt was too small for me, but it fit great on Liz. It looked awesome on her and was a nice statement about the universe, America's wilderness and nature and all that. And then a certain governor got picked as a vice presidential nominee, and Liz hasn't been able to wear it out of the apartment since for fear people would misread her political affiliations and assume she was in favor of shooting animals from planes. Maybe after Inauguration Day, she can again show it in public. It's still a really cool shirt.
2. A Century of Women On Top T-shirt
1. Hustler T-shirt
Backstory: Found at a rummage sale of a Russian immigrant. The new owner (the sister Teecycle benefactor Sally) is a newscaster in Portland who appeared in Hustler. Seriously. Here's the story.
Update from new owner Jen in Portland, Oregon: I was very excited to get a Hustler tee to commemorate my appearance in the mag, and my husband said the shirt turned him on!
